Silo season 2: Release date, cast, plot, trailer, latest news
It looks like the conflict is about to step up a notch in season 2.
It's almost time for Silo season 2, with Rebecca Ferguson set to return in Apple TV+'s hit show.
Juliette Nichols is back in action in the series, which is based on Hugh Howey's novels, desperate to find the truth after she finally stepped foot outside the silo at the end of season 1 - only to find she'd been lied to her entire life.
A recent trailer shows the return of Ferguson's Juliette as she makes a horrifying discovery, as well as Tim Robbins's Bernard Holland, who's gaslighting everyone into thinking she's dead.
Not just that - by the end of the trailer, we got a new glimpse of Steve Zahn's new character, Solo, who, if the series follows the books closely, will have a big role to play as the actor joins the cast.
Ferguson previously confirmed that the beloved series is set to end after seasons 3 and 4, meaning there's a lot more action set to come our way in the hit Apple TV+ show.
But, for now, here's everything we know so far about the release of Silo season 2.
Silo season 2 release date
Silo season 2 will begin on Apple TV+ on Friday 15th November 2024, with new episodes arriving weekly after that. The season will conclude with its 10th episode on 17th January 2025.
The release date was confirmed at San Diego Comic Con during the first ever Silo panel which was attended by Ferguson, Common (who plays Robert Sims), creator and showrunner Graham Yost and executive producer and author Hugh Howey
The second season was confirmed in June 2023, shortly after season 1 was released, and also began filming at Hoddesdon Studios in Hertfordshire that same month.
Graham Yost continues to serve as showrunner, while executive producer Morten Tyldum will return to direct the first three episodes.
Previously confirming that the show had been renewed for season 2, Yost said: "Apple has believed in our vision from day one and it’s an honour to have the opportunity to dig deeper into this story and peel back the layers to our characters in the Silo."
Rebecca Ferguson is also once again among the large roster of executive producers.
Silo season 2 cast
The cast list for season 2 is currently as follows:
- Rebecca Ferguson as Juliette "Jules" Nichols
- Tim Robbins as Mayor Bernard Holland
- Common as Robert Sims
- Dame Harriet Walter as Martha Walker
- Chinaza Uche as Sheriff Paul Billings
- Avi Nash as Lukas Kyle
- Rick Gomez as Patrick Kennedy
- Steve Zahn as Solo
- Alexandria Riley as Camille Sims
- Shane McRae as Knox
- Remmie Milner as Shirley
- Clare Perkins as Carla
- Rick Gomez as Patrick Kennedy
- Caitlin Zoz as Kathleen Billings
- Tanya Moodie as Judge Meadows
- Iain Glen as Dr Pete Meadows
- George Robinson - Mark Chambers
Rebecca Ferguson will return as series protagonist Juliette – which is, of course, crucial, after that epic cliffhanger.
Meanwhile, one new star joining the series is The White Lotus actor Steve Zahn, who will play pivotal book character Solo.
Additionally, there are other supporting characters that we will see back, including Shane McRae as Knox, Remmie Milner as Shirley, Game of Thrones star Iain Glen as Jules' father, Dr Pete Nichols, Alexandria Riley as Camille Sims, Clare Perkins as Carla, Caitlin Zoz as Kathleen Billings and Tanya Moodie as Judge Meadows.
We wouldn't expect the return of Rashida Jones's Allison Becker or David Oyelowo's Sheriff Holston after their fates in season 1, although there is always the possibility of flashbacks.
What is the plot of Silo season 2?
While plot details are currently thin on the ground for Silo season 2, we do have some clues courtesy of showrunner Graham Yost.
He teased that season 2 will begin with a rebellion gone wrong – and that we pick up with Juliette in a life-threatening situation.
"Juliette has a very difficult time getting into this other silo, and she's looking for safety 'cause her suit is running out of air," Yost told Entertainment Weekly.
"The wondrous tape that Walker [Harriet Walter] arranged for her to have her suit wrapped in, that's going to fail. A lot of the episode is about Juliette just trying to survive and the engineering stuff she has to do to try to stay alive."
He added: "At some point she gets a sense she might not be alone. Then at the very end of the episode there's a twist."
Intriguing! Aside from Yost's teases, we would expect the series to include elements of the second novel in Hugh Howey's Wool trilogy. Book spoilers ahead!
Shift, the second book in Howey's trilogy, goes back in time to tell the origin story of the silos, by focusing on young congressman Donald Keene, who is ordered by Senator Thurman to design and build a number of massive silos. The urgency of his task soon grows. Other narratives in the book follow different perspectives, giving us a richer understanding of the world in which the silos were built.
It's unclear how faithfully the show will follow the second book, as we're still expecting to follow Juliette's journey. Could there be time jumps between the present and past?
Apple TV+ has also provided some clues as to what's ahead, with the streamer rolling out various first-look clips and images.
One clip shows Rebecca Ferguson’s character, Juliette Nichols, traversing across the wasteland outside the Silo shelter, while another bit of footage later in the trailer shows Silo’s Bernard Holland (Tim Robbins) holding a rally to rile up the citizens of Silo, saying "We are not finished! We will safely leave the Silo!"
Apple TV+ has also released four first-look photos from season 2, which you can see below.
The series will continue on from that epic cliffhanger from the season 1 finale that saw Juliette discover that the world outside was indeed toxic but that there were numerous other silos.
The show will continue to explore what this means for Jules and the rest of the cast, whilst also updating us on life in the series' initial setting.
We also expect to see the romantic relationship between Jules and IT hand Lukas explore and grow in future episodes, but we doubt it will be smooth sailing.
Speaking to RadioTimes.com about what future seasons of the series will hold, author Hugh Howey explained: "What I love about this series, the book series, and what we would do with the TV show if we get an opportunity, is it doesn't tell the same story over and over again. There's not a lot of repetition.

"The story gets bigger over time and you try to maintain the DNA in the heart of what makes the series fantastic, but there's new characters to introduce, and again, every time you think the mystery is solved, it just gets more intriguing.
"That's been the thrill of this show and the thrill of the books, and we have to get a chance to keep doing it."
